We’ve got the Oil
Here at Steelco we only use the finest gear oil. We have performed many different tests to prove that our oil is superior to our competitors. In 1976, Don Lee, (founder of Steelco and also a lubrication industry veteran) was faced with the formidable task of formulating greases & oils better able to withstand severe operating conditions found within the steel industry.
These included, among others,
- extreme temperatures
- heavy shock-loads
- both high & low speed operation
- water washout & contamination
There are four different tests that were performed in order to ensure that Steelco’s grease is the best of the best. The first test, the water test, shows how when normal gear oil gets contaminated with water, it mixes to form a milky, yellow color. Which is not good. Steelco grease doesn’t mix with water. It stays layered and still coats and protects the gears from water damage such as rust. The seal of the gear oil is extremely durable, even when submerged in water.
The second test is the impact test. When you put grease on a bearing, you have to make sure that there is still grease to protect the bearing from damage both before, during, and after impact.
Gear boxes tend to leak either from overfilling, or from grease slinging up the sides. Our grease is thicker so it doesn’t get everywhere. It stays within the desired area.
Flashpoint of grease needs to be high, due to it getting hot during everyday use. Competitors don’t use the same properties in their oil that we do and in a temp test, we proved that our grease has a higher melting point than competitor oil. While their oil melts and sets on fire immediately, ours withstands the heat.
Our initial philosophy was “To provide our customers with the finest lubrication products, minimising maintenance costs & unscheduled downtime whilst maximizing the productive lifetime of valuable capital assets.” If you would like to know more about our company or our oil, give us a call today! We would love to hear from you as well as answer any questions you may have.
