Why Choose Steelco

Why Does STEELCO Make Its Lubricants from Solvent Extracted Natural High V.I.* Base Oils?

4 Good Reasons:

1. SOLVENT EXTRACTED PARAFFINIC BASE OILS HAVE A HIGHER NATURAL VISCOSITY INDEX THAN NAPHTHENIC CRUDES.

Solvent extracted natural high V.I. (Paraffinic) base oils show less change in viscosity with temperature changes than oils manufactured from naphthenic crudes. This higher natural V.I. keeps the petroleum base lubricants from thinning-out under high operating temperatures and thickening at lower temperatures. When the viscosity of a lubricant falls and/or rises, excessive wear and even seizures can result (b).

2. SOLVENT EXTRACTED NATURAL HIGH V.I. BASE OILS DO NOT CONTAIN CORROSION-CAUSING IMPURITIES PRESENT IN MOST OF THE WORLD'S CRUDE OILS.

Most crude oils contain a high percentage of sulphur compounds impossible to extract by refining (a). Often such compounds are present in volumes as great as 5% sulphur in a lubricant, contributing to metal corrosion. Some lubricants manufactured from this type of crude oil are naturally more corrosive than the solvent extracted natural high V.I. base lubricants.

3. SOLVENT EXTRACTED NATURAL HIGH V.I. BASE OILS HAVE A GREATER HEAT RESISTANCE THAN NAPHTHENIC CRUDES.

Higher operating temperatures cause formation of deposits. Solvent extracted natural high V.I. base oils resist heat and thus control deposits better than naphthenic base oils (c). Solvent extracted base oils also resist oxidation much better--a critical factor in longer oil life.

4. STEELCO INDUSTRIAL LUBRICANTS, INC. IS A LUBRICATION SPECIALIST.

Solvant extracted natural high V.I. base crudes are acknowledged to be better for manufacturing high quality lubricants. Most crudes are excellent for refining fuels, petrochemicals, and similar products for a wide and diversified markert. Actually, lubricating oils and greases are by-products of their primary products, while lubricants account for only a very small percentage of the large patroleum companies' business. In fact, less than 1% of the crude oil produced in the world today is used in the manufacture of lubricants. To meet STEELCO's exact specifications, the finished product is required to go through six refining stages in manufacture.

World Crude Oil ProductionDid You Know...

World wide crude oils come in almost unlimited varieties. Of all these varieties of crude oil, only about 10% would lend themselves to further refining as lubricants. STEELCO Six Stage lubricants demand even more of their base crudes. Of those available for lubricant refining, less than 1% of these meet STEELCO's exacting requirements. They are--by far--the best base crudes from which to manufacture top quality lubricants. STEELCO uses only the finest quality natural high V.I. base crudes in the manufacture of our engine oils, gear lubricants, industrial oils, and greases. Only these bear the STEELCO trademark.
